A Banking Hub With A Rich History
Of course, now, Charlotte is known as a banking hub, so times have changed, but Charlotte has an incredibly rich history. Have you ever heard of the Charlotte Hornets? The NBA team gets its name from the Revolutionary War. It’s said that General Cornwallis said that entering Charlotte was like entering a “Hornet’s Nest of Rebellion.”
It’s a little ironic the city that is so proud of its nickname, The Queen City, is also proud of its revolutionary ways, but it’s true. While disputed, legend says that Charlotte declared independence from the British government a full year before the country’s Declaration of Independence was signed.
If true, they would the first to do so, and now the county celebrates Meck Dec Day (Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence Day). Charlotte is in Mecklenburg county.
Charlotte’s Location

Of course, as South Carolina attracted new businesses to the Charlotte suburbs using incentives, the opposite is also true. It’s not uncommon for a business to move from Charlotte to the suburbs in South Carolina or vice versa.
The fact that the Carolina Panthers of the NFL may also be partially to blame. The Panthers have a team motto that is “Two States. One Team.” Obviously, they want to attract fans and consumers from the larger Carolina region, but the average person may not even realize that the team is in Charlotte.
